Post-infection rehabilitation

Post-infection rehabilitation is a physician-led treatment programme that aims to provide medical, physical, mental health and emotional support to patients that find it difficult to recover from long term effects of infectious diseases.

Some infectious diseases can lead to a wide range of symptoms that can last for weeks, months or even years after the infection. These conditions frequently lead to fatigue, weakness, pain, difficulty concentrating and headaches that persist after the infection has cleared. Certain infections have long been associated with an unexplained chronic disability in a proportion of patients. Some infection may also lead to myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), often referred to as post-viral fatigue.

Various infections are possible trigger factors for post-infectious complications or troublesome symptoms:
  • Lyme Disease and other tick-borne diseases
  • COVID
  • Epstein-Barr virus
  • Cytomegalovirus
  • Human herpesvirus
  • Enteroviruses
